Portal for young volunteers goes live

v

March 14th 2007
We are delighted to announce the launch of the brand new web–based national youth volunteering portal for England, designed and developed by Connect Internet Solutions. The portal, on www.vinspired.com, incorporates a host of social networking features and user-generated content to provide an unrivalled destination for young people interested in volunteering. The portal will act as a central gateway for volunteering information and guidance and also offers easy access to local volunteering opportunities.

The content managed site offers users a personalised view of information on volunteering opportunities (including the chance to respond in real-time to the opportunities), real-life experiences of volunteers including videos, blogs, and articles, online forums, and FAQs and online advice, all supported by a dedicated telephone helpline. Other features include automated alerts by email and SMS on volunteering opportunities based on the user’s expressed preferences.

Portal users are encouraged to contribute details of their own volunteering experiences to the portal by uploading content such as images, videos, audio clips and case studies. They are also provided with options to provide feedback on portal content, and with the opportunity to spread the word by ‘Send to a friend’ options.

Ian Finch from Connect Internet Solutions (Director - Technical Development) says, “We are thrilled to be able to use technology to support the work of v. Young people increasingly use social networking features on the web to communicate and build communities of interest amongst themselves, and vinspired will tap into this by offering exciting and relevant options related to volunteering. We hope this will help to inspire a new generation of young volunteers and significantly increase the numbers of 16 – 25 year olds in volunteering.”
